A valid, current ID is required. If expired it must have been ISSUED within the last 5 years.

The name on your document MUST match the name on your identification card. e.g. A marriage license is not sufficient to show a name change. The purpose of notarization is to identify a signer and deter fraud.

Be sure your document is complete and does not leave blank spaces which could be filled in later. Notaries are not legally allowed to notarize a document that is not complete. This is for your safety as well.

Confirm with the receiving party (attorney, bank, government agency, etc) the type of notarial certificate requested: acknowledgment or jurat. Note: if your document came with a notarial certificate it may not be California compliant and a compliant certificate will be filled out to be attached to your document.

SIGNER MUST BE WILLING

The signer must be coherent, cognizant and willing to sign. The signer must be able to converse in and understand English. (I can help locate a bilingual notary).

Valid ID includes U.S. driver's license or ID card , U.S. Passport or Passport Card, a Canadian or Mexican Driver's License, a U.S. Military ID, a valid Foreign Passport, an employee ID card for a California county or city. If you have a question about ID, please contact me first. NOTE: Some military ID cards do not contain the required information.
